State Labor – Union Service Fees
Maryland law gives unions the right to collect service fees from public sector employees that are part of collective bargaining units. Service fees are separate from union dues.
Laws pertaining to the collection of service fees can be found in the Annotated Code of Maryland:

The Department of Budget Management has a q&a section about service fees. Although the specific information at that site regarding the list of bargaining units and their exclusive representation applies only to those State employees who would be covered by the State Labor Relations Board, the general principles about the payment of fees apply to employees of Higher Education and Public Schools as well.
For further information about your specific union and its fees, please contact your union representative or your department of human resources.
